It needs warm (10-380 C) and humid climate (70% relative humidity) for growth and can be cultivated throughout the year. ... Alluvial, sandy loam, red laterite and medium black soils with good drainage are ideal for cultivation of sapota.

It is a tropical crop and can be grown up to an altitude of 1000 metres. It can be grown in all types of soils.
